Unami's First Day (Sunday) School Program for Children

Unami Meeting holds First Day School every Sunday from September thru June. We meet during Meeting for Worship from 11:00 to 12:00. During the first 15 minutes, students join the adults in Meeting for Worship and are then escorted to the two school rooms for the remainder of the time.

During the first 15 minutes, worshipers may offer messages that are appropriate and interesting to children. We want our young people to understand that Meeting for Worship is not just sitting in silence…that messages are a valuable part of our Meeting.

Unami is fortunate to have children ranging from pre-school and toddlers through middle school age. Our toddler area features age-appropriate toys and activity areas. Our room for elementary age students includes a piano, woodworking area, painting easel, and arts/craft table. Children may borrow books from our library.

Our weekly program includes interesting activities for children. Teachers change from week to week. First Day School fun includes arts/crafts, environmental, or outdoor activities depending on the interest and expertise of the adult leader. Students interact with various Quaker adults; values and testimonies are naturally incorporated in the learning.

Our teachers and assistants have up-to-date child clearances and are members and attenders of Unami. The mission of Unami’s First Day School is to support both parents and children. We hope our parents can participate in Meeting for Worship and get to know other parents as time goes by. Our Faith Community benefits from messages that come during Meeting for Worship, First Day School, and informal conversations in fellowship.
